My experience with crashing and freezing in Football Manager

Help spread the love on Social media 💖

Nobody likes to see a black screen while playing a favorite game, freezing during matches, the game crashes on launch and the like.

I’ve already gone through these situations and I’ve lost a lot of time looking for a solution on the Internet.

It happened to watch my player score a goal (3D match), and a few seconds later, I saw the desktop icons.

It’s not a good feeling for the passionate player of Football Manager. At that point, the impossible becomes possible!

That’s why I decided to write an article on the topic “crashing and freezing” with the intent to offer you options for troubleshooting. First things first …

Updating Graphics Card Drivers

This should be the starting point of an unpleasant adventure. I used to use the GeForce 8600 GT, but it’s much better to play the FM 2019 with the GeForce GT 730.

So, I need to visit the NVIDIA site (from time to time), in order to monitor current events regarding my graphics card. Now, there is a little trick.

During update of new software release, it is important to select “perform clean installation” and in this way avoid mines on the road.

If you don’t know what your graphics card is, and you have Windows 10 try this: Open Start Search for System Information Select the System Summary ComponentsDisplay.

Install the latest Windows 10 updates and DirectX

When I say Windows, I mean Microsoft. I love that my operating system has the latest updates and the right version of DirectX, which is a prerequisite for playing Football Manager.

Run a full system antivirus scan

I used different antivirus programs (AVG, Kaspersky, Norton, and Alvira), but on the basis of personal experience, I can freely say that number 1 is AVAST.

There are a lot of options for a computer scan, but my favorite is the Boot-Time Scan.

However, you need to be careful because certain settings are necessary. I suggest you look at the pictures below.

Freezing During a Match

This is my weak point because I don’t like to play Football Manager without the 3D Match Engine.

Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to face the problem of “Freezing During a Match,” but I found the solution.

First I applied the above steps (Graphics Card, Windows Updates, Antivirus Scan) in order to determine whether the nightmare is software or hardware. However, there was no effect!

Then I decided to download the OpenHardwareMonitor program because I suspected that there was a computer overheating (CPU and GPU).

I started the program and FM2016! I immediately noticed that the temperature of the graphics card goes to 90 C during the 3D Match.

Then I realized it was really hot inside a computer tower. The problem was solved when I fixed the cooler.

Saved game won’t load

The good news is that you can quickly fix this issue by adding .fm on the save file name. Right click on it → Select Renameadd .fm → hit Play.

Still cannot continue fm career? I suggest you visit the Sports Interactive Community and explain your problem.

I’m sure you’ll get the right answer because these guys are doing their job perfectly.

That’s it. As you can see, I don’t have much experience with “crashing and freezing” in Football Manager.

There have been some unpleasant situations but with a happy ending. Thank you for your attention and time.
